The Musou genre, known for combining action and strategy in the gaming world, allows players to face off against hundreds of soldiers on massive battlefields simultaneously. However, one of the leading franchises of this genre, Dynasty Warriors, is set to raise the bar even higher with the release of Dynasty Warriors: Origins next year.
Is it technically possible to display 10,000 soldiers at once?
According to the game’s producer and director, Tomohiko Sho, the game will feature 10,000 soldiers on screen simultaneously. In an interview with TheGamer, Sho revealed that this massive goal has actually been a dream for the team for a long time.
When asked by a journalist if reaching this target was easy, especially by pushing the limits of the PlayStation 5, Sho jokingly replied, “It was easy for me, but I’m just the director,” acknowledging that the programming team faced the real challenge. Sho mentioned that the team worked hard to overcome the technical barriers and underwent an extensive period of development to achieve this goal.
According to Sho, showcasing such a large number of soldiers on screen is only possible thanks to today’s technology. He stated that they had always dreamed of such a goal in the past, but added, “We could only achieve a project of this scale with today’s consoles and PCs,” Sho said. Thanks to the power of new-generation devices, having this many soldiers on screen seems to have allowed Dynasty Warriors: Origins to return to its roots.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is scheduled to release in January 2025 and aims to bring a major revolution to the Musou genre. Feel free to share your thoughts on the game in the comments below.
